Floral Oolong Tea is a delicate, lightly oxidised single-origin oolong from Ilam, Nepal — grown at 5,000–5,500 ft above sea level by Norling Specialty Tea’s artisan team. Honey blossom, soft orchid, and a gentle peach sweetness on a mountain-light body. Everything a high-mountain oolong should be — and no bitterness.
Oolong tea sits between green and black — oxidised just enough to develop depth and complexity, while still holding the fresh, aromatic character of a lighter tea. At 5,000–5,500 ft in the Ilam district, Norling Specialty Tea’s artisan team has found the precise processing window that produces the floral, honey-soft profile this oolong is known for. The oxidation is controlled to approximately 20–30%, preserving the mountain freshness while building a quiet sweetness that lingers.
This tea was developed for drinkers who love Taiwanese high-mountain oolongs — the kind of cup you can steep multiple times, each infusion revealing a slightly different aspect of the same flower. Grown in small seasonal batches by 40 smallholder families and youth artisans, Floral Oolong Tea is a product of the land, the altitude, and the people who understand both.
Norling Specialty Tea is a young farm in the Ilam district of eastern Nepal, operated by youth artisans — 40 smallholder families and a team of young tea makers who hand-tend tea bushes at 5,000–5,500 ft above sea level. The farm is currently in the process of organic certification. Norling’s teas are produced in limited seasonal batches, hand-processed from leaf to bag, and shipped directly to Canada. This is not commodity tea — it is the work of the next generation of Nepali tea makers, building something new at altitude.

Floral Oolong Tea has a delicate, layered profile: honey blossom on the nose, orchid and soft peach in the cup, and a long, sweet finish. It sits between green and black tea in oxidation — lighter than dark oolong but with more body than green tea. If you enjoy Taiwanese high-mountain oolongs (Alishan, Li Shan), this Himalayan oolong from Norling at 5,000–5,500 ft in Ilam will feel familiar and exceptional.
No. Floral Oolong from Norling Specialty Tea is grown at 5,000–5,500 ft in Nepal's Ilam region, where high altitude and cooler temperatures naturally reduce tannin levels. The floral notes and honey sweetness dominate, leaving a smooth, clean finish. Brew at 85–90°C for 3–4 minutes. Even beginners who have had bitter oolong elsewhere consistently describe this as the smoothest oolong they've tried.
Both are Nepal Hills oolongs from the Himalayas, but they're very different cups. Floral Oolong has lower oxidation with honey-orchid-peach notes and a delicate, light body — ideal for sipping slowly. Dark Oolong has approximately 50% oxidation (closer to black tea) with stone fruit, roasted honey, and earthy depth — it's also excellent cold-brewed. If you're new to oolong, start with Floral Oolong.
Floral Oolong Tea is sourced from Norling Specialty Tea in Ilam, Nepal, which is currently in the process of organic certification. The farm grows without synthetic pesticides — this is essential for the delicate floral character to develop naturally. We contribute 5% of every purchase to the organic certification fund to help Norling and other farm partners achieve full certification. We never use the term "certified organic" for this product.
Floral Oolong can be steeped 3–5 times. Each infusion reveals a slightly different note — the first steep is most floral, later steeps become softer and creamier. For re-steeping, reduce water temperature by 5°C and add 30 seconds per subsequent steep. Oolongs are among the best loose leaf teas for multiple infusions, making the cost-per-cup excellent compared to tea bags.
