Should I add milk to green tea?

You have probably seen milk being added to black tea. A lot of new tea products add cream, sugar and milk to matcha as well. But should we add milk to green tea?

Straightforward answer is “No”.

Green Tea contains compounds which are called Catechins. These Catechins are the compounds which are known for the health benefits of green tea. From supporting heart health to mind clarity, catechins play a vital role in giving green tea the crown it deserves.

Milk Contains various proteins. Among them Casein Micelles is one of the major proteins. This protein helps in supporting body functions like digestion, helping tissues and organs grow and protecting body from virus and bacteria.

What happens when you mix green tea and milk?  

When milk is added to green tea, the catechins in the green tea binds with the milk proteins to form a new compound which look like curds or gelatinous layer. This makes the tea loose it’s healthy chemicals to form something else.

Conclusion: Do not add Milk to Green Tea. If you want to drink tea without bitterness, try the below tea, which is one of the least bitter green tea.
