Description
Theba Black is a rare artisan loose leaf black tea from the Taplejung district of Nepal — grown at 6,000 ft above sea level on Pathibhara Tea Estate's farm. Deep dark chocolate, dried plum, and pine resin aromatics. Intensely flavoured, exceptionally smooth, and virtually impossible to find in North America.
The Story of Theba Black
Taplejung sits in the far eastern corner of Nepal, where the Himalayan foothills push higher and wilder than anywhere else in the country's tea-growing belt. Pathibhara Tea Estate, at 6,000 ft, is among the highest altitude tea farms in the region — and the teas produced here reflect every foot of that altitude.
The deep, resinous, chocolatey character of this tea comes directly from the soil and climate at 6,000 ft: thin air, cold nights, slow oxidation, and leaves that have had to work hard to grow. The result is unlike any black tea produced at lower elevations.
Why Theba Black Is Different
- Grown at 6,000 ft in the Taplejung district — the highest elevation in the Nepal Hills Tea family, and one of the highest tea farms in Nepal
- Deep dark chocolate and dried plum profile that is distinct from any Assam, Darjeeling, or Chinese black tea
- Organic Growing Method — no synthetic inputs at any stage of growing or processing
- Purchasing this helps support farms like Pathibhara Tea Estate gain organic certification through our 5% back to farm program
