Thanksgiving Tea Gift Ideas: Thoughtful & Cozy Tea Presents for Every Tea Lover
Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and you might be wondering what to get for your loved ones this year. There's the usual suspects — candles, sweaters, maybe a bottle of wine — but have you ever considered the gift of exceptional tea?
I'm Bhaskar Dahal, founder of Nepal Hills Tea, and I'm writing to you from Peterborough, Ontario, where our family tea company sources single-origin teas directly from small farm partners in Nepal's Ilam and Taplejung highlands. I'd like to make the case for Nepali tea as a Thanksgiving gift — and share the teas we'd recommend.
Why Tea Makes a Great Thanksgiving Gift
Thanksgiving is about gathering, warmth, and the pleasure of sharing good things. Tea fits all three:
- It's universally accessible — almost everyone drinks tea or is curious about it
- It's a daily pleasure, not a one-time luxury
- Single-origin Nepali tea has a story — a specific farm, a specific altitude, a harvest you can trace
- It's seasonal: autumn is the time of the autumnal flush, when Nepal's tea farms produce a distinct harvest with its own character
The Nepal Hills Tea Sampler Kit: The Perfect Starting Point
If you're gifting someone new to Nepal Hills Tea — or to specialty loose leaf tea in general — the Tea Sampler Kit ($30) is the right choice.
It includes 10 single-origin teas, 5g each, from all four of our farm partners in Ilam and Taplejung. That's enough to brew 3–4 cups of each tea — a full guided exploration of what Nepal's highlands produce. Black, green, white, oolong. From 5,000 to 6,000+ ft. No bitterness in any of them.
It's the most complete introduction to Nepali specialty tea you can give in a single gift.
For the Tea Lover Who Wants to Go Deeper
If you're gifting someone who already knows they love Nepali tea — or specifically loves black tea — the Black Tea Everyday Pack ($70) brings five full single-origin black teas together: Gold Black, Ruby Black, Muscatel Black, Special Black (Theba Black from Taplejung), and one more. It's the complete Nepal Hills black tea collection in one gift.
A Note on Our Four Farm Partners
Every Nepal Hills tea comes from one of four farms. Here's what you're supporting when you gift Nepal Hills Tea:
Farmers Tea Co — Ilam, 5,500 ft
Founded by Dil Kumar Rai, supporting 150 farming families. Certified organic. Produces our Gold Black Tea, Floral Green Tea, Floral White Tea, and Fresh White Tea. The Gold Black Tea is our autumn recommendation: rich, malty, honey notes, perfect for a cold Thanksgiving morning.
Sandakphu Tea Estate — Ilam/Taplejung, 5,000–6,000 ft
Jasbirey Village community. Certified organic. Produces our Ruby Black Tea and Dark Oolong. The Dark Oolong is exceptional in autumn: stone fruit, roasted honey, a warming richness that pairs beautifully with seasonal baking.
Norling Speciality Tea — Ilam, 5,135 ft
40 smallholder families. Currently in the process of organic certification. Produces our Muscatel Black Tea and Floral Oolong. The Muscatel is one of the most distinctive teas we carry: honey-grape, apricot, silky finish.
Pathibhara Tea Estate — Taplejung, 6,000 ft
The highest farm in our range. Grows following organic farming practices. Produces our Special Black Tea (artisanal name: Theba Black): dark chocolate, dried plum, pine resin. Complex, structured, and completely unlike anything else we carry.
Thanksgiving Brewing Recommendations
For autumn gatherings, our recommendations:
- Morning cup: Gold Black Tea — malty, honey, warming. Full-bodied but not heavy. Perfect before a long day of cooking.
- With the meal: Special Black Tea — structured, complex, pairs well with roasted and savory flavours.
- After dinner: Dark Oolong — stone fruit and roasted honey. Aids digestion and transitions beautifully from a heavy meal to a quiet evening.
- For guests who prefer light tea: Floral White Tea — low caffeine, delicate, spring blossom. Accessible to anyone.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best tea gift for Thanksgiving?
The Nepal Hills Tea Sampler Kit ($30) is the most versatile tea gift for Thanksgiving — it includes 10 single-origin teas from 4 farms in Nepal's Ilam and Taplejung regions, covering all four tea types. It's a complete guided introduction to Himalayan specialty tea, with no bitterness in any of the teas. Ships across Canada from Peterborough, Ontario.
What Nepali teas are best for autumn?
For autumn, we recommend Gold Black Tea (malty, honey, warming), Special Black Tea from Pathibhara Estate (dark chocolate, dried plum, structured), and Dark Oolong (stone fruit, roasted honey, pairs with food). All three are full-bodied and warming without bitterness, and all three hold up well to the cooler temperatures and heartier flavours of the Thanksgiving season.
Are Nepal Hills Tea gifts available across Canada?
Yes — Nepal Hills Tea ships Canada-wide from Peterborough, Ontario. Free returns on every order. For holiday gifting, we recommend ordering early as small-batch teas have limited inventory.
Does Nepal Hills Tea have gift packaging?
Nepal Hills teas ship in clean, simple packaging. For gift presentation, we recommend pairing any Nepal Hills tea with a quality loose leaf strainer or infuser, available at most kitchen stores. The Tea Sampler Kit in particular makes a complete, self-contained gift that needs nothing added.
Are Nepal Hills teas organic?
Several Nepal Hills farm partners are certified organic. Farmers Tea Co and Sandakphu Tea Estate are certified organic. Pathibhara Tea Estate grows following organic farming practices. Norling Speciality Tea is currently transitioning to organic certification.
