Theba Black is a rare artisan loose leaf black tea from the Taplejung district of Nepal — grown at 6,000 ft above sea level on Pathibhara Tea Estate's certified organic farm. Deep dark chocolate, dried plum, and pine resin aromatics. Intensely flavoured, exceptionally smooth, and virtually impossible to find in North America.
Taplejung sits in the far eastern corner of Nepal, where the Himalayan foothills push higher and wilder than anywhere else in the country's tea-growing belt. Pathibhara Tea Estate, at 6,000 ft, is among the highest altitude tea farms in the region — and the teas produced here reflect every foot of that altitude.
The deep, resinous, chocolatey character of this tea comes directly from the soil and climate at 6,000 ft: thin air, cold nights, slow oxidation, and leaves that have had to work hard to grow. The result is unlike any black tea produced at lower elevations.
Pathibhara Tea Estate is located deep in the Taplejung district of eastern Nepal, at 6,000 ft above sea level — the highest elevation in the Nepal Hills Tea family. The estate is run by smallholder farmers who have built one of Nepal's highest altitude tea operations. Pathibhara practices organic farming: no synthetic pesticides, no artificial fertilizers, and no compromise on the integrity of the land.

Theba Black comes from Pathibhara Tea Estate in Taplejung, Nepal, at 6,000 ft — one of the highest and most remote tea-growing elevations in the world. It's hand-crafted in tiny batches, making it the rarest Nepal tea available in North America. The flavor is complex: dark chocolate, dried plum, and a distinctive pine resin note that you won't find in any Darjeeling or Chinese black tea.
No. Theba Black's extraordinary altitude — 6,000 ft in Taplejung — means the leaves grow slowly in cool, thin air, producing low tannin levels and natural sweetness. The cup is bold and aromatic (dark chocolate, dried plum, pine resin) but completely smooth. It's the rare black tea that shows you what a truly high-altitude, hand-crafted orthodox tea can taste like: complex without a trace of bitterness.
Use 1 teaspoon (2–2.5g) per 8 oz cup. Heat water to 90–95°C (just off the boil). Steep for 3–4 minutes. Do not over-steep — the aromatic compounds that make Theba Black special are delicate and peak at 3–4 minutes. The leaves can be re-steeped 2–3 times; each infusion reveals a slightly different layer of the flavor profile. No milk needed.
Pathibhara Tea Estate sits in Taplejung district, Nepal — separate from the more widely known Ilam region. At 6,000 ft, it experiences more dramatic temperature swings between day and night, which forces the plant to produce intense aromatic compounds. The estate is certified organic. Pathibhara is the estate name; Theba Black is the specific product. This is the farm's signature tea — available in very limited quantities in North America.
Special Black is sourced from Pathibhara Tea Estate, which grows tea organically. The remote location at 6,000 ft in Taplejung naturally limits exposure to neighboring non-organic agriculture, making it one of the cleanest, most pristine teas in Nepal Hills' collection. The farm does not yet hold organic certification.
