The internet is flooded with claims about tea and weight loss, but separating fact from fiction can be tricky. Let's dive into the science and uncover the truth. A lot of tea companies have advertised about the relationship between tea and how it helps to lose weight. I have tried to dig through some scientific papers and present to you my honest findings related to this topic.
First let me ask you: “Do you honestly think that tea can help lose weight”? Why do you think so? Has someone told you that tea can help lose weight or are you expecting to lose weight by drinking tea?

While you think about it, let me present to you some research based facts. In this article we will quote specific scientific papers where the scientists have researched on this topic.
A large-scale study by the National Health and Nutritional Services, involving over 6400 participants, examined the relationship between tea consumption and BMI. The research found that hot tea was inversely related to obesity and iced tea is directly related to Obesity. The reason why participants drinking iced tea had highr BMI was because of additives like cream, milk or sugar that is used on the iced tea.
In another research paper published by Lin-Huang Huang and group of other researchers, they studied the effect of green tea extract on over weight and obese females. The conclusion of the research was that the green tea extract effectively increases leptin (Leptin is a hormone that helps regulate appetite, body weight, and fat storage. It's also known as the obese protein.) and reduces LDL(LDL (low-density lipoprotein) is a type of cholesterol that's sometimes called "bad" cholesterol) after 6 weeks of treatment.
Now should we jump to the conclusion right away that Tea can help lose weight? I would say no. While there are research based evidences for a controlled population that tea can support healthy living by facilitating the body to effectively regulate appetite, every individual has a unique body chemistry. Our lifestyle, food, even the mental health, they dictate whether our body gains or loses weight.
So, in conclusion: While there are some controlled evidences that tea can support with better health, it does not guarantee to lose weight.
Preferred method to live a healthy life is to drink plenty water, exercise, eat good food and obviously drink good teas. Go with whole leaf teas, if you can, please buy organically grown tea.
